07 Dec Iceland 2 of 3
In our second (or three) installments on beautiful Iceland, we are going to go through a ‘best of Iceland’ itinerary that you can use to spend a week in Iceland. You will want to spend one night in Reykjavik exploring the sites and enjoying the nightlife – either on your first or last day of your trip, but, either way, you will want to leave the city to explore this amazing small, friendly, safe, amazing country. The moment you leave Reykjavik a quaint, easy, lively, city in its own right, you’ll most likely do the “Golden Circle” tour for a whole day. We recommend doing the Golden Circle on your first full day and spending your second night (after spending the first in Reykjavik) at one of my two favorite places in Iceland – Frost and Fire hotel. The next morning, spend some time literally in the backyard of the hotel walking through the hotel’s backyard: Hveragerði. Full of bubbling mud pits, steaming streams, and incredible boiling water ponds – you’ll enjoy walking through what feels like Middle Earth. After this head east. You’re next/third night you’ll spend in Vik – black sand beaches and amazing seafood (via a stop in Stokkseyri) – enjoy the ride to Vik – waterfalls, hikes, etc. You could even spend two nights in Vik and really enjoy the area. Either way, you’ll eventually leave Vik and you’ll head further east – the next stop will be Jökulsárlón – and, again, take your time on the journey stopping every 15-30 minutes for photos. Spend your fourth night as close to Jökulsárlón as you can (choices are limited) and spend the next day exploring the area and driving back West. Spend your fifth night on the ring road and explore the area (do NOT attempt to drive back to Reykjavik this day – its too long of a drive). You are now back in Reykjavik for your final night in Iceland.
